Orosman Delsol, 60, of 741 Mill St., was arrested Monday by Watertown police on allegations that he falsely reported a jewelry theft in an attempt to collect on an insurance claim.
Charged with falsifying business records and third-degree falsely reporting an incident, he was committed without bail to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building by City Judge Eugene R. Renzi.
Police said that late on Dec. 9, he reported that jewelry priced at $74,430 had been stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in the 200 block of Arsenal Street. One item was a $40,400 diamond ring, according to police. He subsequently filed a theft claim with AAA Members Insurance Agency of New York, police said.
The investigation later revealed that the diamond ring was actually in the owners possession, police said.
