OGDENSBURG - The case of a former union treasurer accused of embezzlement and forgery charges was moved Tuesday from Ogdensburg City Court to a St. Lawrence County grand jury.

Phillip J. Jessmer, 42, Waddington, was charged last month with one count of third-degree grand larceny and eight counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.

State police said Mr. Jessmer forged the checks totaling $7,616.190 between April 2010 and October 2011 while he was treasurer for Civil Service Employees Association Local 185, which represents civilian employees at Ogdensburg Correctional Facility. He has since been fired.

Mr. Jessmer is represented by the St. Lawrence County Public Defender’s Office.
