CRIMINAL CONTEMPT - MASSENA - Village police charged Demetrius J. Golden, 30, formerly of 177 1/2 Center St., Massena, with a felony count of first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree criminal contempt at 2:25 a.m. Friday at the Center Street residence he had been sharing with his girlfriend, the mother of his three children between the ages of six months and four years old.

He allegedly pinned Christine Rizzo against the wall and struck her and then pushed her into a door frame. Rizzo complained of scratches to both her arms and said her face had been shoved into the door frame. The village court had issued an order of protection in July directing Golden not to harass, annoy or alarm Ms. Rizzo.

Golden was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and released under the supervision of the probation department after he told the court he could find another address. “I don’t know where, but I’m going to call around,” he told the village justice.

The court signed a temporary order of protection directing Golden to stay away from Ms. Rizzo but allowing third-party contact to arrange child visitation.

Ms. Rizzo, in her statement to police, said she had sent Golden a text message asking him to move out of their Center Street residence early Friday morning. She told police she was in the bedroom and Golden was in the living room when she sent the initial message that prompted an argument.

She said Golden entered the bedroom after getting the message and started yelling at her. “Demetrius pinned me against the wall with his left arm and tried hitting me with his right hand, but I blocked it,” Ms. Rizzo said, explaining to police in her statement that defensive act left her with scratches on both her arms. “He then pushed me into the door frame in front of our children.”

Golden, in his statement to police, offered a dramatically different account of the incident. He acknowledged the couple’s relationship has been rocky in recent days. He said he was chatting with some friends on Facebook, including his aunt, when he received a message from Ms. Rizzo asking him to come into her room.

“I told Christina no because shed didn’t want to be with me anymore ...,” he noted in his statement to police.

He said an argument ensured, and he went into Ms. Rizzo’s room to talk to her because he was tired of messaging back and forth. “All of a sudden Christina grabbed me and pushed me on the couch and started choking me with her left hand. I was having a hard time talking, and I told Christina to stop choking me because I couldn’t breathe,” he said, noting he had pushed Ms. Rizzo away during that confrontation.
