CARTHAGE The Carthage Industrial Development Corp. has been awarded $200,000 of the $400,000 applied for through the Rural Area Revitalization Project program.
The CIDC formed a committee at its meeting Wednesday to administer the grant. The committee will work with the village and property owners of 253-255 State St. to decide on the scope of the work to be done on the properties, said John F. McHugh, chairman of the committee. He said the funds will be used to improve the structure of the building by repairing the facade and roof.
It is important to the integrity of the downtown corridor to the have the building preserved, Mr. McHugh said. He said that if funding allows, it will make apartments on the upper floors and bring the storefront back to life.
TLC Real Estate is at 255 State St. and Jims Pub was formerly next door.
During the CIDC meeting, there was also an election of officers. Robert Gormley will remain as president, Terry L. Buckley was elected vice president and G. Wayne McIlroy and Bruce D. Armstrong will remain at their posts as treasurer and secretary, respectively.
Mr. Armstrong, Mr. McIlroy and Terrence L. Roche were appointed to the governance and audit committee to review the organizations bylaws and select an auditor.
