18 assists highlight Jackets win over Flyers


MADRID - Madrid-Waddington displayed unselfish ball movement to past Norwood-Norfork 66-23 on Thursday evening in NAC North Division Girls Basketball at the Hive.

Passing out 18 assists on 28 baskets, the Jackets improved to 7-0 in the North, 13-1 overall over the Flyers (3-12, 0-7 NAC North).

“We are coming together as a team. Offensively, we were unselfish and we distributed the ball well. Bridget Beldock has been a nice addition and she’s getting stronger every day,” said M-W coach Gary Tischler.

Beldock shot 9-17 from the field (5-9 3’s) finishing with 19 points, eight steals, three assists and two boards as M-W took a 17-4 lead after the first and led 30-11 at halftime.

Tess Knight generated 12 points, five steals, four assists and two steals while Katie Marcellus (seven rebounds, four steals, two assists) and Jenny King (nine rebounds, one assists) each logged nine points. Olivia Parmeter added eight points, five steals, four assists and two rebounds while Taylor Lenny chipped in five points, two assists and one steal.

Sierra Dumas (two steals, one assist, one rebounds), Desiree Pryce (two rebounds, two assists, two points, one steal) and Shelby Kendall (seven boards, two points, one steal) rounded out the winning effort.

Miranda Langtry scored seven points for Norwood-Norfolk and Katie Ames tallied six.

SLC 57, Tupper Lake 14: The Larries steadily pulled away from an 11-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. Breanna Vatter pumped through five three-pointers to spark the SLC offense with 20 points. She also tallied six rebounds and two assists.

Sam Richards added 10 points. Caitlin Grow (15 rebounds) and Lindsay Thayer (12 rebounds) both finished with nine points and five assists as SLC improved to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the division.

For the Lumberjacks, Lizzie Zurek scored six points.

Chateaugay 46, C-P 15: The Bulldogs led 25-5 at halftime en rout to raising their undefeated East Division-leading record to 9-0. Courtney Boyea anchored a balanced Chateaugay (12-2) offense with 11 points, including the 1,000th point of her varsity career. Morgan Doyle netted 13 C-P (3-11, 2-6).


The lone NAC varsity boys basketball contest had Norwood-Norfolk pulling away to a 70-42 interdivisional win over Parishville-Hopkinton.Cody Rust led the way offensively for the Flyers (2-14) with 18 points. Dan Devine tossed through 12 and Kyle Martens finished with 10.

Mike Burns scored a game-high 19 points for P-H and Ryan Snyder struck for another 18.
