SLC, Salmon River boys hockey teams net NAC wins


St. Lawrence Central regained the lead atop the Division II standings while Salmon River picked up its first league win of the season as both teams skated to 6-2 decisions against NAC hockey rivals on Monday.

SLC 6, Franklin Academy 2: At the Tri-Town Arena, the host Larries got off to a fast start for the second time in as many meetings against the Huskies this season as they built a 4-1 lead by the first intermission before going to on raise their Division II record to 10-2 and take a one-point lead over idle OFA (9-2-1).

Kody Kocsis opened the scoring just 1:04 into the game assisted by Lukas Arquiett and Ian Lynch. Nate Stickney connected at the 2:20 mark from Eric Lynch and Blake Baldwin before the Huskies got on the board when Jake Henning finished off a play set up by Trevor Cooley at 3:48.

Arquiett restored the two-goal lead less than two minutes later assisted by Kocsis and Ian Lynch. Kocsis made it 4-1 with 4:32 left in the first period assisted by Ian Lynch and Arquiett.

The Larries built a 5-1 lead when Arquiett scored from Eric Lynch and Stickney at 11:32 of the middle frame. Tanner Studlack broke through for the second FA goal with just three seconds left in the period fassisted by Cameron Daniels.

Ian Lynch closed out the scoring when he scored from his twin brother 6:16 into the third period.

Nate McLaughlin handled 19 shots working the SLC crease for the win while Joey Brown recorded 36 saves for the Huskies (7-10-1, 3-8-1).

The Larries are slated to host Canton on Friday at 7 p.m. before closing out the season on the road against OFA on Monday.

Salmon River 6, Tupper Lake 2: At the Tupper Lake Civic Centery, Ty Terrance connected for five goals to lead the Shamrocks past the Lumberjacks for their first NAC win of the season.

Ellliot Fletcher opened the scoring for Tupper Lake just 5:54 into the game assisted by Boyce Guerette and Nick LaMere before Terrance pulled the Shamrocks even with 1:08 left in the opening frame.

Terrance went on to score unassisted goals just 41 seconds and 2:20 into the second period to complete his natural hattrick before Guerette made it 3-2 at the 12:15 mark with an unassisted goal of his own.

Terrance restored the two-goal lead at 1:07 of the third period then closed out the scoring assisted by Tyler Thomas with 35 seconds left in regulation. Nathan Smoke finished off a play set up by Quinton Thomas and Brady Mitchell-Lazore at 11:21 of the third to account for the other Salmon River goal.

Cory Garrow made 16 saves in the winning effort while Marcus Richer turned aside 37 shots for the Lumberjacks (1-14-1, 0-11).

The Shamrocks (2-13-2, 1-8-2) will look to build on their first NAC win on Wednesday at home against Division I rival Canton starting at 6:30 p.m.
