MASSENA — Harry J. Witkop Jr., 81 of Allen Street, died Friday evening February 1, 2013 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Harry was born on July 7, 1931 in Potsdam NY, the son of the late Harry J. Sr. and Bernice (Lehan) Witkop.

After graduating from Massena High School, Harry served proudly in the U.S Army. On October 6, 1956 he married Jeannette Marion in Cornwall Ontario. He was employed by General Motors as a Layout Inspector until he retired in 1987. Harry also served as an usher at Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed coaching and supported Massena Hockey and Football, as well as supporting the Catholic schools in Massena where he and his children and grandchildren attended. Harry also enjoyed working in his garden where he grew beautiful vegetables. Surviving Harry is his wife Jeannette, five sons; John and Mariann Massena; Danny and wife Sandra Massena; Patrick and wife Suellen Forth Worth TX; William and wife Sue Ellen of Victor NY; and Robert and wife Lisa of Wheatfield NY. Four daughters; Cynthia and husband Peter Matthews of

Massena; Jeannette and her husband Nicholas Zaferakis South Boston MA; Nora and husband Ricky Vice and Catherine and husband Robert Todd, both of Massena. Also survived by 23 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother Jerry and Margaret Witkop of Albany NY and several nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his sister Cynthia and her brother in-law Anthony Stocker, two grandsons Aaron Witkop and John Matthews and a niece Patricia Stocker.

Friends and family are welcome to call at the Phillips Memorial Home from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday February 5, 2013. A Mass of Resurrection will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday at the Church of the Sacred Heart February 6, 2013 with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. At the request of the family those wishing to express acts of kindness may do so to the Trinity Catholic School Endowment Fund, or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
