Political bulldozing

Many of us were very happy at the close of the November election that we would no longer be besieged by the endless, mindless and, for the most part, negative political ads. It is a shame that our governor would employ the same mode of media blitz to push forward his state budget.

The idea presented is that Gov. Andrew Cuomo did a great job throughout his term and the proposed budget is our “salvation” and that we should push our assemblymen and women and state senators to accept his budget.

The proposed state budget has many positive features, but it also contains areas which are less than good or even less than satisfactory. Distribution of school aid is one such area. The budget needs discussion and further development in the legislative branch of our government — isn’t that the way it’s supposed to work? It seems that Gov. Cuomo takes a “bulldozer” approach to getting done his will. This approach was used successfully by him to pass the gun restriction legislation recently. Much of the bill was good, but again parts were not well thought out and required more discussion than they were given.

I do not believe Gov. Cuomo is our knight in shining armor who will save the state. Neither do I believe he wears a halo and wings. He is an effective administrator, but he is also a politician, who is doing everything he can to keep his image in front of the people probably to seek higher offices in the future. Perhaps he is planning a run for the presidency in 2016?

These annoying ads are paid for by the state Democratic Committee. Could not this money be better used for the “needs” of the state? Make no mistake, these ads are political.
