CARTHAGE — Meteorologists are predicting sunny skies and temperatures in the 20s for today’s 15th annual Winterfest at Carthage Park.

The event is sponsored by the Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Winterfest is a wonderful opportunity for the community and surrounding areas to experience winter fun and to simply recharge their energy, when so many people are feeling down and blue,” said Lori A. Borland, chamber executive director.

The event, set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will include cardboard sled races, a precious pet photo contest, magician and balloon artist Dan Tobin, a Reptiles Forever display, an egg hunt, a scavenger hunt, face painting, an American Maple Museum display and a bake sale. There will be snowmobile rides and horse-drawn sleigh rides by Randy Nichol. Food will be available and raffles with items donated by businesses will be drawn every 15 minutes.

Participants are urged to bring their cardboard sleds because there will be a prize for the most creative sled. Submissions for the pet photo should be brought along with the $5 entry fee to the park.

Those planning to attend are reminded that village law prohibits dogs at public events.
