DAYTON, Ohio — Ahmed Mahfouz scored a hat trick for the second consecutive night, and Jason Hill also had three goals as the Dayton Demonz sent the Thousand Islands Privateers to its worst loss of the season with 12-0 whitewashing at Hara Arena on Saturday night.

Former Privateer Terry Watt bagged a pair of goals for regular-season champion Dayton (37-6), and Jesse Felten notched a goal and three assists. Jeff Rose stopped all 33 shots for his second shutout of the season.

Michael DiLorenzo made 17 saves for Thousand Islands (19-25), which has lost 10 out of its past 14 games since Jan. 6 when the National Hockey League lockout ended.

The Privateers sit four points behind the Danville Dashers, who have three games in hand, for the third playoff spot. Dayton is 33 points ahead of the second-place Danbury Whalers.

Thousand Islands will host Dayton on Thursday at 7:35 p.m. at the Watertown Municipal Ice Arena before hosting Danville on Friday night.
