CANTON - The two North Country AAUW branches of District 7 of AAUW-NYS are partnering with WPBS-TV in Watertown to underwrite The Makers series this month.

As part of the local release of the program, WBPS is filming interviews with north country women “Makers” that will air around the series and during Women’s History Month programming in March.

Lynn Brown, the executive vice president for WPBS-TV, will preview the series for AAUW-St. Lawrence County Branch members and guests from 4 - 6 p.m. Tuesday upstairs at the newly reopened TAUNY (Traditional Arts in Upstate New York) building at 53 Main St. in downtown Canton.

The reception and program is free and open to the public. Several local “Makers” will be introduced. Light refreshments and desserts will be served.

The Makers series originated from a very clear premise: over the last half century, the work of millions of women has altered virtually every aspect of American culture. The MakersS platform tells the story of these exceptional women — both famous and heretofore unknown individuals — whose pioneering contributions continue to shape the world in which we live.

The local Makers are Barbara Gordon, the former president of SLC Literacy of Northern New York coordinator; Donna Seymour, Potsdam, a long-time community activist; Ashley Keys of Renewal House/Crisis Intervention; and Nafeesa Johnson, the SUNY Canton Student Government president.
