MASSENA – Mrs. Elizabeth L. “Betty” Barber, 58, of 95 Nightengale Ave, passed away late Sunday evening, February 10, 2013 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Betty was born August 24, 1954 in Massena, the daughter of the late Dominick and Alice Rocque Barber and was a graduate of Massena Central School.

She worked for many years at Massena Central Schools in the cafeteria and as a bus monitor until having to retire due to her illness. She was an active member of the Massena Rod and Gun Club and served as their secretary for many years. Betty enjoyed knitting, playing cards and her cats and dogs.

She is survived by her two sons, Alan and Alma Barber and Patrick Barber and his fiancÚ, Nicole Ellsworth, all of Massena; her sisters, Cecelia Getman and Patricia Mattioli, both of Massena; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, and her fiancÚ, Joel Dowe on November 25, 2002.

As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massena Humane Society or a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where memories and condolences may be shared online at www.donaldsonfh.com.
