Watertown- Dawson Dick, age 87, passed away February 12, 2013 at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where he has resided for the past 5 years. Dawson was a lifelong resident of Watertown, and a son of Dr. Andrew Dick and Marion Bates Dick. Mr. Dick graduated from Watertown High School in 1943. Following graduation, he served in the Navy from September 10, 1943 to February 6, 1946. A World War II veteran, Dawson served aboard a ship in the Pacific Theatre.

Mr. Dick married Muriel Bond, also of Watertown in 1947. He was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Syracuse University. In 1952 he commenced working for the Jefferson County Department of Social Services. After 35 years he retired as case supervisor B upon the birth of his first grandchild, Daniel. During his time with the County, he was active in union matters for CSEA. He negotiated a contract for the Social Service unit and served as their president. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 61 and the Henderson United Methodist Church.

Upon his retirement he and his wife, Muriel, enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, the Southern States, throughout New York State, Pennsylvania and New England. Muriel predeceased him a little over 20 years ago. He has since found companionship with Elsie Griffith, a longtime friend from Adams Center. He traveled with her to Texas, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Dawson also enjoyed traveling with his family and grandchildren as well. There were trips to Cape Cod and Disney World. Dawson always loved his grandchildren, Daniel and David. They were the light of his eyes.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Helen Miller Dick, Clinton, NY. His two grandchildren, Daniel, of the Albany area and his fiancée’ Sarah Gardner of Auburn, Maine; David, Clinton. His brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Jean Sinclair Dick, Adams, NY. Mr. Dick lived a long and fulfilling life until 5 years ago.

The funeral will be 1:30 pm Saturday, February 16th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Jane Eastham officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be considered to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the Henderson United Methodist Church.
