Suffering from cabin fever? Get out and enjoy the winter weather with Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerces 2013 River Shiver is planned Feb. 14 to 24.
This years highlights will include the Battle of the Bay ice fishing derby, polar bear 5k, polar bear plunge, a Battle of Ogdensburg reenactment, bridal show and a Snolf snow golf tournament.
Battle at the Bay ice fishing derby will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wheathouse Bay to benefit Wounded Warriors and Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad. Pre-Registration is $25.00. Registration ends Feb. 8. After Feb. 8 registration is $30 for adults and $10 for kids 15 and under. Hourly prizes for Biggest Fish, Walleye or Northern Pike First, Second and Third places. After party and award ceremony at Howies. A prize of $500 for biggest Pike and $500 for biggest Walleye will also be awarded. The Lions Clubs will host a Polar Bear 5 K Walk/Run along Maple City Trail. Pre-Registration of $15.00 by Feb. 8. Registration on the day of the race is $18.00. Registration forms are available at the Medicine Place or Chamber Office. Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. at Dobisky Visitors Center. Long sleeve tees will be available to all pre-registrants and on the day of the race. Race begins at 10 a.m. sharp.
The Polar Bear Plunge Municipal Marina, 100 Riverside Ave. (Dobisky Visitors Center). Registration begins at 11:30 AM you jump in the order you register. Jump begins at 1 PM. Costume contest plus the person bringing in the most in pledges wins 10% of the entire purse. Hot Tub, Hot Food, Hot Showers, door prizes and raffle. Minimum pledge is $35.00 . To benefit the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Chamber of Commerce. Registration forms at most banks, the Medicine Place, Phillips Diner, Chamber office, or online at ogdensburgny.com.
The Polar Bear Art Activity based on Eric Carleys illustrations in Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear? from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Ogdensburg Public Library. All ages are welcome.
Rock-N-Skate will be held at Lockwood Arena. Free skating for grades K – 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free skating for grades 7 – 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Rental skates available for $3. For more information, contact the city Parks & Recreation Department.
Cabin Fever Picnic at Knights of Columbus will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The menu will feature oven fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, beans, rolls and strawberry shortcake. This event is sponsored by Chamber of Commerce.
At 1 p.m., the Battle of Ogdensburg flag raising ceremony will be held at the Dobisky Visitors Center.
At 2 p.m., the Battle of Ogdensburg Battle re-enactment will be held in Downtown Ogdensburg.
The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highland Bagpipe Band will perform at the Ogdensburg Public Library at 3 p.m.
The Snow Golf Tournament at Knight of Columbus and Father Martin Field to support the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prizes for best team, putting contest DJ, door prizes, great food.
The Winter Ball sponsored by English Country Dance will be held at 7 p.m. at the Ogdensburg Am-Vets.
At 11 a.m., a wreath laying ceremony will be held at Sheriff Yorks grave at Ogdensburg Cemetery
Bridal Expo Rediscovering your Backyard will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 120 Commerce Park Drive. The event is sponsored by the Ogdensburg Zonta Club
At 2 p.m. the Battle of Ogdensburg Battle Re-Enactment will be held at Lighthouse Point.
