Get ready to shiver.
The annual Ogdensburg River Shiver winter festival starts up Saturday with a seasonal indoor and outdoor events with fun assured for all ages until it wraps up next weekend.
These are all big events, said Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sandra M. Porter.
The events are:
Saturday: Battle at the Bay Ice Fishing Derby to benefit Wounded Warriors and Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wheathouse Bay; Registration is $30 for adults, $10 for children age 15 and under; hourly prizes for biggest fish, walleye or Northern Pike, first, second and third places. After party and award ceremony at Howies, New York Avenue; $500 for biggest pike and $500 for biggest walleye; registration forms available at Howies, Chamber office or email email@example.com
Saturday: Polar Bear 5 K Walk/Run along Maple City Trail sponsored by area Lions Clubs; day of race registration is $18; registration forms available at the Medicine Place or chamber office; Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. at Dobisky Center; long sleeve tees to all pre-registrants and as available day of race. Race begins at 10 a.m.
Saturday: Polar Bear Plunge, Municipal marina, Dobisky Center); registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and you jump in the order you register; jump begins at 1 p.m.; Costume contest plus the person bringing in the most in pledges wins 10% of the entire purse; hot tub, hot food, hot showers, door prizes and raffle; minimum pledge is $35; to n. Saturday: Polar Bear Art Activity based on Eric Carleys illustrations in Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear?; all ages welcome; 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Ogdensburg Public Library, 312 Washington St.
Saturday: Rock-N-Skate, Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center; free skating for grades kindergarten to sixth grade, 5 to 7 p.m.; free skating for grades 7 to 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.; Rental skates available for $3; contact city parks and recreation department, 393-1980
