SYRACUSE Syracuse University quarterback Ryan Nassib has been named the Big East Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the school announced on Thursday.
Nassib will receive a $2,000 scholarship that may be applied to graduate or professional studies. Nassib was also chosen as Syracuses Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete, which also came with a $2,000 scholarship award. He was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in December.
Nassib is the second Orange football player to be named the Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Kyle Johnson claimed the honor in 2001.
Nassib, who holds every major career and single-season passing record in school history with the exception of career touchdown passes, graduated in May from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management with a dual undergraduate degree in finance and managerial accounting. He is currently pursuing his masters degree in accounting.
