HARRISVILLE Mr. and Mrs. Martin Roy Luther Sr., 14471 Wilder Drive, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 26 with dinner at Maggies on the River, Watertown, followed by a reception at Hilltop Towers, Watertown.
Mr. Luther, son of the late Roy and Ruth E. Atkinson Luther, and Barbara Foster Burgess, daughter of the late Florence and Earle Foster, were married Jan. 26, 1963, at St. Francis Solanus Church with the Rev. Eugene Kelly officiating. Honor attendants were Diane Powers, Watertown, and the late James Ritz.
Mr. Luther graduated from Harrisville High School in 1943 and served in the Army from 1945 to 1946. He worked at St. Regis Paper Co., Harrisville, Jones & Laughlin Steel Co., Star Lake, New York Airbrake Co., Watertown, and Harrisville Central School. Mr. Luther was mayor of Harrisville from 1969 to 1971, town of Diana assessor from 1973 to 1978 and a member of the Harrisville Central School Board of Education from 1984 to 1989.
He is a member of the American Legion and Harrisville Rod and Gun Club and enjoys bowling, traveling, playing cards, reading, hunting and fishing.
Mrs. Luther graduated from Vincentian Institute, Albany, in 1954. She worked for New York state in Albany and supervised youth recreation in Harrisville for several years. Mrs. Luther is past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and Harrisville Rod and Gun Club. She enjoys bingo, playing slot machines and traveling.
Mr. and Mrs. Luther owned Harrisville Laundromat and Car Wash and B&M Bookkeeping, Harrisville.
The couple has three sons and two daughters-in-law, John W. Jack and Sheryl, Craig L. and Terri, and Martin R. Jr., all of Harrisville; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura J. and Wendell Cornaire, LaFargeville; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
