Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dier, Watertown, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 22 with a family reception with four of their children and six grandchildren present.
Mr. Dier, son of the late Robert C. and Margery Hance Dier, and Betty Bodenhamer, daughter of the late Jacob Sr. and Garnette Pickard Bodenhamer, were married Dec. 22, 1962, in High Point, N.C. The couple moved to Watertown following their marriage.
Mr. Dier taught physical education and coached several teams at Watertown High School, including lacrosse, baseball, football, golf and girls basketball. He retired in 1991, after more than 30 years of teaching and coaching.
Mrs. Dier was a telephone operator in High Point, prior to marriage. After moving to upstate New York, she was a medical office manager and floral designer. She has volunteered for many area charities, most recently the Jefferson County Historical Society.
Mr. and Mrs. Dier are members of the Watertown Golf Club. They enjoy golfing, traveling to South Carolina during the winter months and watching their grandchildren play sports.
The couple has three sons and two daughters-in-law, Don and Toni, Hilton Head Island, S.C., Tom and Bea, Watertown, and Scott, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Greg Guimond, Ogdensburg; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
