FORT COVINGTON - A 17-year-old student at Salmon River Central School was arrested Wednesday for allegedly distributing marijuana brownies to her classmates.
Brett A. Laughing of Fort Covington is facing a felony count of second-degree criminal sale of marijuana and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne said his office was only given some details by state police investigators, and they are awaiting a lab analysis of the brownies.
He said Laughing is alleged to have bought the brownies in Snye, Que., and allegedly either gave or sold them to two other students, who were less than 16 years of age. State police noticed the two youths were under influence when they responded to a call. The two alleged recipients may face marijuana possession charges in family court.
Although rumors have been circulating in the community, Mr. Champagne said there is no indication thus far that the brownies also contained oxycodone. He added that a pending lab analysis will either confirm or deny that.
