A Gouverneur man is now facing five charges in his alleged theft spree that targeted Kinney Drugs stores.

Eli B. Hubbard, 37, of 6207 Route 58, remains an inmate in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building as a result of his arrest Saturday by Watertown police on charges of falsifying business records and attempted petit larceny. In incidents Feb. 12 and 13, he is accused of taking over-the-counter medications in the Coffeen and State street stores, and of trying to get a refund for the stolen goods at the former location.

Alexandria Bay police said they have charged him with two counts of petit larceny in shoplifting incidents Jan. 28 and 30 at Kinney’s in their village. Medications also were taken there, with the theft values set at $49.98 and $45.98, police said.

State police on Tuesday charged another count of petit larceny. Mr. Hubbard is cited in a shoplifting valued at about $70 on Feb. 14 at the Seaway Plaza Kinney store, police said.

Alexandria Bay Police Chief James M. Marshall said the store chain’s security division reviewed videos to identify Mr. Hubbard in some of the thefts.
