SYRACUSE Syracuse University has announced that its mens basketball game against Georgetown on Saturday at the Carrier Dome has been sold out. The total ticket count of 35,012 shatters the previous record for an on-campus college basketball crowd.
The pairing between No. 8 Syracuse and No. 11 Georgetown will be the final regular-season, Big East Conference game at the Dome between the Orange and the Hoyas. Syracuse officially joins the Atlantic Coast Conference on July 1.
The game will mark the 72nd time the Dome has topped 30,000 for a SU game. Georgetown has been the opponent 17 times (including this years). The fan total of 35,012 surpasses the mark of 34,616, set on Feb. 27, 2010, when the Orange hosted Villanova.
The Villanova game was also announced as a sellout in advance, the only other occasion for a SU game. Afterward, Dome officials were able to identify additional seats, which could have been sold and courtside seats were added at the north end and west side of the court. Additional seats in the football press box area are also being utilized and contribute to the larger sellout number.
The 4 p.m. game will be televised nationally by CBS. Former SU standout Carmelo Anthony will have his No. 15 jersey retired in a ceremony at the game.
