CANTON – Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country hosted its 14th annual Polar Bear Golf Classic on Feb. 14.
The event had a turnout of 24 golf teams (approximately 96 participants) and raised $10,000 for CP of the North Countrys Outdoor Recreation Program. This Outdoor Recreation Program provides individuals with disabilities opportunities to enjoy activities like camping, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and more. The funds raised are used to purchase equipment and supplies, as well as to offset the costs of some of the activities to make them more affordable to participants.
The weather was perfect for golf in the snow and, from the feedback I received, it seemed like all of the participants really enjoyed themselves, Makenzie Taylor, director of Public Relations, said.
This fundraiser ended with a casual dinner, a prize raffle drawing, and an optional trivia challenge. During dinner, Outdoor Recreation Program Coordinator Jim Williams spoke about the program and its importance, and some of the participants of the Outdoor Recreation Program shared the mic to tell everyone what their favorite activities are. All and all the event was a success and could not have been so without the generous support of the local businesses that sponsored the event, as well as those that donated items.
