Sunday’s Ogdensburg bridal expo will showcase local vendors

Just in time for the spring wedding season, the Ogdensburg Area Zonta Club will host its second annual Rediscovering Your Backyard Bridal Expo at the Bridge & Port Authority Industrial Park on Sunday.

For a $2 donation, brides-to-be, family, friends and future grooms will have an opportunity to meet with over 70 of the area’s top wedding vendors who will be on hand to share their products. The event runs from 11 to 4 p.m. at 120 Commerce Park Drive.

Attending a local wedding planning event can save couples a lot of time, past Zonta President Paula J. Jacques said Tuesday.

“Couples can check out wedding attire, sample food and cakes, learn about venue options, price flowers, and talk with photographers and videographers, all in one place,” Mrs. Jacques said.

The theme, “Rediscovering Your Backyard,” encourages brides and grooms to explore great wedding offerings right here in the north country.

Seminars and demonstrations will be offered throughout the day, including a fashion show at 1 p.m.

“Mothers, bridesmaids and whole bridal parties will get a chance to see the dresses on stage and on actual women,” Ms. Jacques said. “Sometimes dresses look different on people rather than racks. Brides get a good feel of what to expect and look for.”

All brides-to-be will register at the door. Five of them will be chosen to participate in a cake dive for a chance to win $300 cash.

“Brides will don goggles, gloves and aprons and try to find the prize in the cake,” Ms. Jacques said. “The girl who won last year was able to put that money towards a gown she saw from Sposa Bella, which she didn’t think she would be able to afford.”

Brides, maids of honor, bridesmaids, mothers and friends, anyone who sees a wedding in their future and those who are just curious about what services are offered locally for weddings, parties and social events are invited to attend, Ms. Jacques said.

“Last year we had whole bridal parties attend the event,” she said. “For only $2, it’s a great deal to be able to see so much in one place.”

Proceeds from admission will benefit the Zonta Club and the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club. A 50/50 raffle will be going on all day long. Many of the vendors will have items available to purchase.

The event is sponsored by Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, D-Theresa, the Zonta Club, the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club, 96.7 YES-FM, Q Country 102.9, PAC 98.7, 95.3 The Wolf, The Journal and Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority.
