OBPA’s bridge sign gets positive feedback

The new, $52,000, 121-square-foot digital sign in the median that has been at the U.S. approach to the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge since December has a simple mission.

“It promotes the community and its events,” said Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Executive Director Wade A. Davis.

And, so far, the double-sided sign has been doing a good job at both.

“We’ve had a lot of comments about it,” said John A. Rishe, OBPA’s director of commercial and industrial development. “They like it.”

The authority will use the sign to promote property in its port, Commerce Park light industrial park and airport. But Mr. Davis said it can also be used to promote at no charge community events, tourism and the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce.

It is a marketing strategy that has paid off with several telephone calls to the authority.

“There is a lot of interest from community groups,” Mr. Rishe said Friday, specifically mentioning one upcoming event promoted this week on the sign, Sunday’s Bridal Expo at Commerce Park.

Organizers of the annual Ogdensburg Expo on March 22-24 at Ogdensburg Free Academy’s Edgar A. Newell II Memorial Dome are expected to follow suit.

Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Thomas P. Luckie Jr. sees no reason not to.

“Obviously, it’s going to impact the Canadian traffic,” he said Friday. “I think it’s a great idea for the community.”

The sign was manufactured by Fiberdyne Labs of Frankfort.
