CANTON — A convicted felon and his 70-year-old mother have been indicted after police reported finding a cache of weapons in their Fowler home last month, including AK-47 and Bushmaster rifles.

Ronald F. Baker,45, and Louise J. Baker, 70, both of 1442 County Route 24, were among five people indicted in four separate cases handed up in St. Lawrence County Court Monday morning.

State police arrested the Bakers Jan. 5 after Mr. Baker allegedly became combative with rescue workers who responded to aid a family member who was having a seizure, trying to prevent them from entering the home.

Troopers called to the scene said they found several guns and ammunition which Mr. Baker, as a convicted felon, is not permitted to own. Those weapons included a loaded .32-caliber revolver, a “large-capacity feeding device” capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition, a .223 caliber Bushmaster XM-15 rifle, an Egyptian Maadi AK-47 rifle and a .40 caliber Hi-Point rifle, according to the indictment.

Mr. Baker’s felony conviction arose from a 1986 incident in which he and his brother, Sylvenus R. Baker, threatened three people with knives after going to a Gouverneur man’s home to collect a debt. The brothers were sentenced to prison following trial and conviction in County Court.

In October 2000, Mr. Baker was fined $625 after pleading guilty in Antwerp Town Court to fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after troopers found a shotgun in his vehicle.

Under Monday’s indictment, Mr. Baker faces six counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. His mother was indicted on four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Also facing charges:

■ Richard L. Cyrus, 20, 90 West Main St., Apt. 6, Gouverneur, was indicted in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries last month in the village of Gouverneur, with an alleged haul ranging from a coin purse to consumer electronics and a shotgun.

Mr. Cyrus faces two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Police said Mr. Cyrus had been living a partly “nomadic” lifestyle, and the stolen goods were found at the apartment where he was staying. Specifically mentioned in the indictment were a shotgun, a debit card, an iPod and two mobile phones.

■ Jared C. Adner, 18, 8 Stevens St., Canton, was indicted on one count each of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second degree burglary. Investigators said Mr. Adner illegally entered a town of Pierrepont home in January or February 2012 and was later found in possession of a stolen .22-caliber rifle.

■ Alex J. Amyot, 37, 1900 State Highway 345, Madrid, was indicted on one count of third-degree grand larceny in connection with the alleged theft of more than $3,000 worth of metal railway-related items belonging to Thomas Fiacco in August in the town of Potsdam.

Mr. Amyot, who was extradited from Florida last month to face the charge, was previously convicted of felony driving while intoxicated in 2008, according to indictment papers.
