OGDENSBURG — The city is moving ahead with plans to borrow to pay for a fire truck, a Zamboni ice machine, and window and stucco replacement at the public library.

City Comptroller Philip A. Cosmo is compiling figures for a resolution to borrow that could be put before the City Council as soon as next month.

The expenses and their cost estimates are:

nA new pumper truck to replace an aging 1978 model that has been off the road since last summer. A cost of $280,000 to $300,000 has been mentioned, but provisional Fire Chief Michael J. Farrell said Friday that he is looking at several models and has yet to settle on a price.

■ A Zamboni ice machine for use in winter at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center rink has been priced at $122,550, according to Parks and Recreation Director Matthew J. Curatolo.

The model in use now is 40 years old, had other owners before the city and is prone to breakdowns. A new one, Mr. Curatolo said, would be good for “15, 20 years, hopefully longer.”

■ Window replacement and stucco repair at the library, 312 Washington St., requires $98,500, according to City Manager John M. Pinkerton.

Library Director Wayne L. Miller said the library already has in hand a $52,709.80 state library grant for the window replacement and expects another grant soon for $24,732 to repair the stucco. The bond includes the 50 percent local matches.

The window needs include the replacement of three 1970s bow vinyl windows at the rear and the side on the library’s first floor that are dirty beyond cleaning. Also, 44 wood-frame windows dating to the 1920s are stuck closed and need to be reglazed and stripped to improve heat efficiency.

“That’s what we need for these pieces,” Mr. Miller said Friday.

Each project would likely have a different repayment length.
