Motorists accused of DWI

The following were charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses:

■ Terry L. Sweeney, 43, Potsdam, was charged by Potsdam village police at 2:36 a.m. Saturday with felony aggravated DWI and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Police said Mr. Sweeney was stopped on Depot Street, Potsdam, for having inadequate headlights, and was found to be in possession of hydrocodone.

His BAC was listed as 0.22 percent. A BAC level of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

A DWI charge is a felony when there is a previous DWI conviction within the past 10 years.

■ Michael C. Bennett, 31, Plattsburgh, was charged by state police at 11:40 a.m. Saturday with felony aggravated DWI. Police said Mr. Bennett drove into a snowbank off Route 345 in Waddington.

He initially refused to take a breath test, police said, but submitted to one at the police station. His BAC was listed as 0.28 percent.

■ Christopher A. Harbaugh, 21, of 318 Sleepy Hollow Road, Gouverneur, was charged by state police at 11:37 p.m. Saturday with aggravated DWI. Troopers said he drove off Sleepy Hollow Road and crashed his vehicle. Nobody was injured in the accident, police said.

His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.18 percent, police said.

■ Randy A. Brouillette, 37, of 9126 Chippewa St., Fort Drum, was charged by Watertown police about 8 p.m. Friday after allegedly backing his vehicle into an unoccupied vehicle in a parking lot in the 1300 block of State Street.

Police said he caused minor damage to a parked vehicle belonging to Karen A. Castor, Redfield.

His BAC was alleged to be 0.10 percent. He also was charged with unsafe backing.

■ Morgan A. Gayton, 18, of 103 Creekwood Drive, Apt. 4, was charged by Watertown police about 3 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Haney Street. Her BAC was alleged to be 0.09 percent.

She also was charged with having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

■ Brenden L. Thomas, 22, of 136 N. Hamilton St., was charged by Watertown police at 12:45 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Arsenal Street.

His BAC was alleged to be 0.11 percent. He also was charged with failure to keep right.

■ Chad M. Benedict, 23, Watertown, was charged by state police about 3 a.m. Saturday on Route 11 in the town of Watertown.

His BAC was not available. He also was charged with speeding.

■ Orion S. Burke, 35, Natural Bridge, was charged by state police at 7 p.m. Saturday on Route 3 in the town of LeRay after being involved in a property-damage accident. Further information was not available.

He also was charged with following too closely.

■ Nicholas J. Stout, 22, Fort Drum, was charged by state police at 1:51 a.m. Sunday on Route 283 in the town of Pamelia.

His BAC was not available. He also was charged with having an inadequate muffler.

■ Timothy R. Yancey, 28, Croghan, was charged by state police at 2:42 a.m. Sunday on Snell Road in the town of Watson.

His BAC was not available. He also was charged with failure to keep right.
