ADAMS Earl George Remington, 94, of Valley Park Dr., Adams passed away Thursday evening at Hospice of Jefferson County where he had been a resident since Tuesday.
Mr. Remington was born September 19, 1918 at the home of his parents Claude S. and Anna (Jefford) Remington. He attended Ellisburg Elementary School, graduated from Belleville Union Academy in 1936 and from Watertown School of Commerce in 1938. From 1943 to 1948 he worked at the Machold Farm, Ellisburg, then as a teller at NNY Trust Co for 11 years. In the following years he was an accountant and bookkeeper for JR Miller Co. and King & King, retiring in 1979.
He married his High School sweetheart, Beryl Stevens March 10, 1945 in the Ellisburg Methodist Church, Rev. Wendell A. Carter officiating. The couple lived in Ellisburg then in Brownville from 1950-1980. They moved to Mannsville in 1980-2000. They spent winters in N. Ft. Meyers, FL. 1985-2000. In 2000 they moved to Adams.
Mr. Remington was active in the Brownville Lions Club as president from 1972-73 and Secretary/Treasurer for several years. From 1957-1985 he did bookkeeping for the Town of Brownville Supervisors. Mr. Remington was a Mason for 49 years and was employed at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds over 40 years during fair season and for auto races.
Mr. Remington had interests in gardening, cars, TV, photography, cards and family activities.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 68 years, Beryl, four children Cheryl A. Docteur, Watertown, Steven E. (Nancy) Remington, Clinton, NY, Eugene A. (Dawn) Remington, Brownville, Janyce (Ronald) Lomot, Cadyville, NY, grandchildren Stefanie Docteur, Evans Mills, Aaron (Monika) Docteur, Watertown, Ty (Abby) Remington, Tana (Brian) Case, Teal (Dylan) Reeves all of Glenville, NY, step granddaughter Faron Lomot, six great grandchildren, Misty, Nathan, Anna, Remington, Tyson and Vivian, one great great grandson Logan. A brother Glen J. died in 1987.
There are no calling hours or funeral. A graveside service at Ellisburg Cemetery will be in the spring.
