Lucille M. Chartrand


CROGHAN, NY ~ Lucille Martha Chartrand, 89, of 6890 Shady Avenue, Croghan, died peacefully Tuesday morning, February 26, 2013, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Lewis County Hospice.

Lucille was born on September 2, 1923, in the Town of Croghan, NY, the daughter of Albert and Nora Brown Ritz. A lifelong resident of the area she attended country schools in the Indian River and Belfort areas and later attended Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan.

She married Clifford V. Chartrand on October 17, 1940, in St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan. Mr. Chartrand died on August 19, 1997.

During her younger years she attended St. Anthony’s Church in Indian River and for most of her adult life was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan where she was a former member of its Rosary Society. She had also been a member of the Long Pond Snow Sled Club.

A loving mother and homemaker, Lucille enjoyed crocheting, reading, watching TV and visiting with her loving family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Campany, of Syracuse; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce (Kathy) Chartrand and Gary (Linda) Chartrand, all of Croghan; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Gerald (Maryann) Ritz and Edna Ritz, all of Croghan, Joan Ritz, of Washington; two brothers-in-law and their wives; Raymond (Delores) Chartrand, of Beaver Falls and Lawrence (Barbara) Chartrand, of Albany; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Carl Ritz & Robert Ritz.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. prayer service at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass from St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, Pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
