A recent issue of the paper featured two articles on Time Warner. The first article discussed the raise in charges. Most of the increase was attributed to “the networks” and charging for your modem. “An average increase of 2.5 percent.” My bill increased $16.70. Another move already will generate $500 million for Time Warner.

Another article said their revenue is flat. Income up 51 percent in last quarter. This was their second highest annual profit ever. As a retiree, my income has been flat for 23 years! I never had an income increase of 51 percent in any quarter or in any year.

The cost of cable is a significant item in my budget as I am sure it is in many households. We have cable TV, telephone and Internet but no packages or movie deals. My Time Warner bill for a year exceeds my utility bill! This is a very poor value for my money. TV is one of the few entertainments available during the winter. However, the cost has me seriously considering cancelling my Time Warner service.

Time Warner is currently offering a package of cable TV, phone and internet for $89. This is slightly more than one-half of my current bill, but it is not available to current customers. Why not offer this as a senior package? This would be appreciated by a great many, and I think that their $500 million and 51 percent increase in income could easily afford this plan.
