POTSDAM - Roger Watters, volunteer greeter at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, was recently named Volunteer of the Winter by hospital staff and fellow volunteers.
Watters, Lisbon, joined the hospitals volunteer program in 2011 as a way to assist the patients and visitors of the hospital; as a greeter, hes among the first points of contact for patients. Staff recognized his approachable nature, warm-smile, deep understanding of the registration and triage process, and his impressive ability to multi-task.
Roger is a role model and always leads by example. He is an asset to the hospital in countless ways, said Lyndsay Macagg, volunteer coordinator. Throughout construction upgrades to the emergency and triage areas, Roger remained unruffled and perpetually helpful. Patients and visitors have come to know and appreciate Rogers calm and caring personality, especially children who can easily become excited or nervous in a hospital setting.
Watters is one of more than 130 active volunteers who donate over 15,000 hours of service each year through their involvement with the gift shop, service excellence, patient care, emergency services, inpatient services, and medical records.
When Watters is not assisting patients and staff at the hospital, he spends time writing poetry at his camp in the Adirondacks with his wife and visiting his children and grandchildren in Vermont.
