Jack D. Benjamin, 64, Sackets Harbor, went home to be with his Lord just before midnight Monday, February 25 while surrounded by his loving family.
Born Aug. 5, 1948 in Ellisburg the son of Gordon D. and June (Sedgemore) Benjamin. Jack attended school in Pulaski, and Baldwinsville, and was graduated from Henderson Central School class of 1967. He attended Hudson Valley Community College before joining the US Navy in 1968. His service to his country included 4 years active duty and 2 years reserve duty in Boston.
Jack lived and worked in Oklahoma for a time before moving back to New York State, living on Green Settlement Rd. and then on Tug Hill. He maintained facilities at the Watertown Water Treatment plant, retiring in 2002. Arizona was his retirement home, where he worked in maintenance for the Mohave County Correctional System.
In 2005 he returned to New York State to marry the love of his life, Gayle (Lane) Boulton of Sackets Harbor. Until this month, he was employed as maintenance superintendent of the Maple Courts apartments.Jack was a member of the Sackets Harbor Fire Company and the Sackets Harbor American Legion. He enjoyed people and was continuously doing unselfish things for others.
Marriages to Catherine Elmer and Nancy Brownell ended in divorce.
Jack is survived by his wife, Gayle Boulton-Benjamin, his sisters Gwen (Patrick) McCarroll, Centennial, CO, and Jennie (John) Mantle, Sackets Harbor; six step children: Merle (Barb) Boulton, Sackets; Corinne (Steve) John, Sackets; Lori (John) Briski, Hawaii; Patrick (Kari) Hogan, Henderson; Greg (Teresa) Boulton, Sackets; and Jennifer (Marc) Baum, Manlius. 13 step grandchildren, and dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be 3 pm Friday, March 1st at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville with Rev. Mona Fargo, pastor of the Adams and Sulphur Springs United Methodist Churches officiating. Spring burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Sackets Harbor. A calling hour will precede the service from 2 pm – 3 pm.
