OGDENSBURG The city wants to replace streetlight bulbs with more energy-efficient LED fixtures.
City Council members approved a grant application to the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency for a sum not to exceed $28,750 to replace 86 city-owned streetlights along the Maple City Trail and the Greenbelt area near the Dobisky Visitor Center.
Streetlights use metal halide bulbs. By replacing them with LED fixtures, the city will reduce its energy consumption by 56,562 kilowatt-hours, decreasing carbon emissions caused by city streetlights from more than 30 tons to 5.67 tons, a 70 percent reduction.
The agency assists communities, corporations and nonprofit organizations that plan projects to provide a community benefit.
