SLU’s Biswall wins state title

NEW YORK, NY - Sophomore Divya Biswal won the triple jump on Friday and the St. Lawrence University high jump trio of Eliza Bell, Marissa Turner and Kylie Morris all scored in that event as the Saint women’s indoor track and field team placed 10th in a 50 field team at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Armory in New York City on Saturday.

Biswal improved her own SLU record for the fourth straight meet as she jumped 12.07 meters to win the triple jump. She holds third in the NCAA performance list and will compete at the NCAA Division III Championships at North Central next weekend.

The Armory is a banked track and new NCAA rules include an adjustment to times run on banked tracks which penalizes distance performances compared to flat tracks.

A solid performance by the St. Lawrence University men’s Distance Medley Relay team highlighted the Saint participation in the ECACs. The Saints scored 22 points in the meet, finishing 22nd in a 51-team field.

The Saint Distance Medley Relay finished third in 10:15.01 with Wesley Kirui running 3:10.7 on the 1300 meter lead leg, Ogdensburg’s Nick Crawford 50.2 on the 400 meter leg, Norwood-Norfolk grate Jon Eng 1:57.5 in the 800 and Zach Nelson with a 4:16.4 1600 meters. Ogdensburg’s Fredericks and Andy Fisher joined Kabia and Vince Maniscalco on the 4x200 relay which finished 10th in 1:31.40.

Fredericks also finished eighth in 60 meter hurdles final in 8.49 seconds and Crawford finished 21st in the 400 in 52.53.

A.J. Blaisdell, threw a season’s best 16.46 in the weight to finish sixth. Scott Smolensky also scored with a sixth place finish, running 8:41.87, a season’s best, in the 3000 meters. LAST CHANCE MEET

St. Lawrence University’s Ella Martin jumped into the top ten nationally in the 5000 meters with a third place finish in 17:13.25 and the Saint 4x400 meter relay shattered the indoor record in that event at the Tufts Last Chance meet on Saturday.

Martin’s time is 10th nationally depending upon other results in meets this weekend. The top 15 times nationally qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships to be held next weekend.

The 4x400 team of Carly Stine, Anna Pond, Hannah Kinsey and Jess Marini ran 3:57.61, knocking nearly three seconds off the record set three weeks ago.
