MASSENA - The Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce has been selected to handle the money for the North Country Airport Alliance to pay bills for marketing efforts with Cape Air, Adirondack Regional, Massena and Ogdensburg airports.
Chamber Executive Director Michael J. Gleason said he had received a call from a representative with the Saranac Lake Regional Airport.
They want Massena to handle the money, he said.
He said the money would be used to market the regions airports that are part of the North Country Airport Alliance.
Its a pot of money for marketing disbursement. The last time we did it was a couple of years ago, according to Mr. Gleason, who has been involved with the North Country Airport Alliance, a regional airport think tank, for the past five-and-a-half years.
Money for the fund is provided by municipalities, he said. Cape Air, which services those airports, would match the funding, according to Mr. Gleason.
Cape Air matches whatever we raise. It goes into a marketing fund to spend for newspaper, radio and other marketing efforts, he said.
The fund will be a separate line item in the chambers budget, he said, so well have to track that money.
The marketing campaign is designed to increase airport traffic to benefit both the airports and Cape Air. Its targeted to take effect this spring, according to the executive director.
The North Country Airport Alliance is scheduled to meet again on April 11 in Ogdensburg.
It (the marketing campaign) is going to be pretty quick, he said.
