NEW BREMEN Six people, including three children, were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:24 p.m. Monday on Deveines Road in the town of New Bremen.
Lewis County sheriffs deputies said Hannah R. Murphy, 20, Castorland, was driving south when she apparently looked down at the radio and went off the left side of the road, hitting a tree.
Ms. Murphy and five passengers were taken to Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, for treatment of various injuries, deputies said.
A rear-seat passenger, Chelsey L. Zehr, 20, Castorland, was later transferred to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, for treatment of a broken knee and leg fracture.
Ms. Murphy and front-seat passenger Travis M.R. Wicks, 22, Lowville, both suffered back injuries.
A 3-year-old boy suffered a broken clavicle, while girls ages 6 and 11 suffered unspecified injuries. The three children, who deputies did not name, were all from Castorland.
Ms. Murphy was charged with failure to keep right, speed not reasonable or prudent and three counts of seat belt infractions, answerable in New Bremen Town Court. The children were not properly restrained, according to deputies.
Personnel from the New Bremen Fire Department, Lewis County Search and Rescue and Beaver Falls and Croghan ambulance squads assisted at the scene.
