Massena, SLC boys basketball teams fall to Section 2 rivals in state openers

SARATOGA - The Massena Central and St. Lawrence Central boys basketball teams saw their Section 10 championship seasons end in the first round of the New York State playoffs against their Section 2 counterparts at the Saratoga High School gym on Wednesday.

Scotia-Glenville 89, Massena 46: In the Class A matchup, the Raiders fell behind 23-11 by the end of the first quarter before the Tartans (22-0) put the game out of reach with an even more impressive 23-8 second-quarter run.

Zack Rusaw paced the Raiders (12-10) with 12 points while Zevon Viskovich struck for another 10. Joey LaBelle and Rhoades Tarbell chipped in five apiece followed by Xavier Viskovich with four and Tyler Haas with three. Rob Cameron and David Phillips contributed two points each while Logan Deshane netted a free throw to close out the Raider scoresheet.

Joe Cremo fired through a game-high 28 points as the Tartans stretched their unbeaten record to 22-0. Andrew Tabber added 15 points toward the win followed by Alex Sausville and Dom LaMorta with 14 apiece.

Lake George 71, SLC 51: The Class C tournament opener saw the Larries work their way to a 32-31 halftime lead before the Warriors (21-2) took control of the game with a 20-8 third-quarter run.

Senior Zane Ramsdell anchored the SLC offense with 20 points and was one of six Larries to connect for a solo three-pointer. Josh White added 10 points followed by Jessi Greer with seven and Tyler Savage with six. Shane Fuentes and Cory LaBarge both hit a three-pointer while Cody Meacham closed out the scoring with two points as the Larries closed out their second straight Section 10 Class C championship season with a record of 10-12 under the guidance of head coach Joey Reome.

Sophomore standout Joel Wincowski led the Lake George offense with 37 points. Connor McCoy tossed through another 17.
