Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard L. Bud Coffey, 89, of North Russell will be held Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at 1:00 PM at St. Marys Church in Canton with Rev. Douglas Lucia officiating. Burial will be in North Russell Cemetery in the spring. Bud passed away March 4, 2013 unexpectedly at home.
Friends may call at the OLeary Funeral Home in Canton on Friday evening from 5 until 8 PM. Donations may be made to Pyrites Volunteer Fire Dept.
Surviving Bernard are his wife Ursula, 3 sons; Gary B. Coffey of N. Russell; David and Chandra Coffey of N. Russell; John and Shelly Coffey of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Ann LaDuke of Watertown; two brothers John Coffey of Pyrites and James and Joanne Coffey of Pyrites; four sisters; Patricia Birch of Hermon; Shirley Coffey of Pyrites; Jeanette Reil of Fulton and Madeline Coffey of Hermon; 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Meredith, Caitlin, Jenna, Christa, Hannah, Haleigh, Kody, Kiana, Daniel and Allison and 4 great grandchildren, Alex, Gabriel, Shawn and Makenzie.
Bud is predeceased by 4 brothers, Frederick, Norval, Dick, Sherman PG Coffey.
Bernard Bud was born August 11, 1923 in Pyrites, the son of Maitland and Lena (Thompson) Coffey. He attended Pyrites and Canton Schools. He married Ursula Hand on December 4, 1943 at St. Henrys Church in DeKalb. The couple has lived in North Russell since 1966. He worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway, Clifton Mines, Benson Mines, Alcoa, Martin Distributors, Huntley Farm Equipment and owned and operated his own Dairy Farm in North Russell since 1966.He was drafted into the US army in 1945 serving in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and was discharged in 1946.
Mr. Coffey was a member of Canton VFW Post 1231. He loved hunting, fishing, baseball and farming but he especially loved his family.
