SYRACUSE Beaver River fell short of a berth in the state final four today, falling to Moravia, 65-42, in a Class C regional boys basketball game at Onondaga Community Colleges SRC Arena.
The Section 3 champion Beavers (21-2) were making their first appearance in the state tournament since 1979. That 79 team also fell in the regional round.
Dylan Powers scored 23 points for Section 4 champion Moravia (21-2), which advances to the semifinals next weekend in Glens Falls. He hit four 3-pointers as the Blue Devils pulled away for a 38-17 halftime lead.
Alex Hall paced Beaver River with 19 points and seven rebounds.
In a Class B boys quarterfinal game at SUNY Potsdam, Section 10s Ogdensburg Free Academy lost to Watervliet 73-58.
The Madrid-Waddington boys, who made the state Class D final last season, fell to Argyle, 77-59, in a quarterfinal game at Hudson Falls High School.
The Salmon River girls basketball team, meanwhile, advanced to the Class B state semifinals in Potsdam with a 73-65 quarterfinal victory over Section 2 champion Watervliet. Abby Kelly scored 35 points for the Section 10 champ Shamrocks (17-6). Aliyah Cook scored 17.
The Massena girls lost their Class A quarterfinal game 62-45 to Troy at SUNY Potsdam.
At Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, Section 2s Fort Edward defeated Section 10 champion Hammond, 64-45, in a Class D girls quarterfinal.
