MASSENA — Christopher H. Pettit, 24, of 419 Rooseveltown Road, Apt. 15, Hogansburg, was charged by state police with false personation and criminal contempt at 4:35 p.m. Friday.

Police said Mr. Pettit was a passenger in a car driven by his girlfriend, whom police did not name, when they were stopped on Route 37B because he was not wearing a seat belt.

He allegedly gave a false name to the trooper, who discovered that the woman holds an order of protection against Mr. Pettit, police said.

He posted $100 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Massena Town Court.
