DANBURY, Conn. Kelly Miller scored twice to lead a balanced attack and Mike Brown stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Danbury Whalers blanked the Thousand Islands Privateers, 7-0, to take a 2-0 lead in its Federal Hockey League semifinal series Saturday.
Julian Fraser, Alec Kirschner, Tyler Noseworthy and Matt Caranci each dished out a pair of assists for Danbury, which can close out the series with a win today.
The Whalers started quickly, scoring four goals in a 13-minute span in the first period. James Sanford, Brett Leonard, Mike Atkinson and Miller all scored. Chris Atkinson added a shorthanded goal in the second period.
Matt Anthony made 40 saves for Thousand Islands.
Game three is at 5:05 p.m. today at the Danbury Ice Arena. Game four, if necessary, will be at the Watertown Municipal Ice Arena at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday.
