CANTON An Ogdensburg woman has been accused of receiving more than $18,000 in day-care benefits to which she was not entitled.
Laura Collins, 28, of 270B Pinkerton Road, Apt. B, was charged with third-degree welfare fraud and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, said Edward F. Tischler, St. Lawrence County district attorneys office investigator.
From April 19, 2009, to Oct. 2, 2011, Ms. Collins submitted weekly day-care statements containing false information, an investigation by the county Department of Social Services found.
Ms. Collins was arraigned in Pierrepont Town Court and released under probation supervision pending further proceedings.
