William J. Haley Jr.


William J. Haley, Jr., 92, Superior St., Watertown, died Saturday evening, March 9, 2013, at Samaritan Medical Center where he had been a patient since March 6.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Tuesday, March 12, from 4 - 7PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 13, at 11:15AM followed by the funeral mass celebrated at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church at noon with Rev. Jonas Tandayn officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Haley was born in Watertown on March 7, 1921, son of William J. Haley Sr. and Nellie M. Johnson Haley, and he had attended Watertown schools.

In 1941 he enlisted in the US Navy and was honorable discharged as a Petty Officer Third Class on September 7, 1945.

On February 4, 1945 he married Grace D. Crupi at St. Anthony’s Church. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary just before her death on April 2, 2010.

Bill had worked at Taggerts Paper Mill and Northern Photo Engravers. For over 20 years, he worked for Sears, retiring as maintenance supervisor in 1983. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Northside Improvement League. He was an avid Yankees fan. He enjoyed making and painting model airplanes and ships, especially from the WWII era, gardening, and his dogs, including Wiley and Tidbit.

He is survived by his three children, William P. Haley and wife, Flossy, Indian Land, SC, Cindy Scee and husband, Terry, Watertown, and Diana Jones, Liverpool; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, including Elizabeth M. “Betty” Haley, Watertown and two brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his wife, Grace, he was predeceased by his brother, Paul R. Haley, who died on March 8, 1997.
