Adams- A prayer service for Earl J. Babcock will be 2 pm Friday, March 15th at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville with Rev. Jane Eastham officiating. Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 1 pm – 2 pm prior to the funeral. Contributions may be made to the Smithville Fire Department or to Hospice of Jefferson County.
Mr. Babcock, 91, Co. Rt 75, formerly of the Bishop St. Rd., passed away Monday at the home of his daughter Beverly Walts, surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson Co.
He was born in the Town of Henderson February 17, 1922, a son of Carl and Edith Smith Babcock. Earl worked on the Jefferson County road crew as a young man. He later owned and operated a dairy farm on the Penny Road, Henderson, and was a self-employed carpenter working on many local building projects, retiring at the age of 80 years old.
Earl married Florence J. Evans February 17, 1946 at the Cape Vincent Methodist Church. Mrs. Babcock died May 13, 2007.
He enjoyed going to dances with his wife. He enjoyed gardening, listening to country and western music. Earl loved raising horses and working his farm with them.
Earl is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Leon Walts, Adams. Four grandchildren, Shawn Babcock, San Diego; Heather Hudson, Brian Walts, Staci Keech, all of Adams. Three great grandchildren, Dalton and Gabriella Hudson and Izabella Keech. A brother Lee Babcock, Mannsville. Nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Duane who passed March 4, 2011 and Ronnie who passed December 23, 1972. A brother Howard and three sisters, Mildred Knight, Lena Secor and Marion Nichols also predeceased him.
