CARTHAGE A promotion for downtown businesses will take place in April.
Chamber of Commerce President Teri L. Ellis announced that local businesses have banded together to open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 6, a Saturday, to show the community what they have to offer.
It shows other organizations can take on an event without the chamber taking the lead, Mrs. Ellis said.
She said the Downtown Is Open for Business event came about as the owner and vendors, including Mrs. Ellis, at An Eclectic Boutique were discussing how to celebrate the second anniversary of the shop. The women decided instead of just having an open house at their store to invite other downtown businesses to join in the celebration.
The chamber president said the campaign has met with positive response from business owners.
Its an opportunity for businesses to show what they have to offer, Mrs. Ellis said. She also noted organizations could hold events in conjunction with the Open for Business day.
Businesses included in the event will have balloons or banners. A poker run type contest will be included with the winner awarded a basket with gifts from participating businesses.
For more information about the event call An Eclectic Boutique at 519-3097 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
In other business, the chamber welcomed a new director, Christine Booth, member solutions regional manager at Northern Federal Credit Union.
The board of directors is seeking member businesses to host business after hours events.
The possibility of changing the venue of the Sounds of Summer concert series was also discussed. The Wednesday night concerts were moved to the Farmers Market pavilion last summer since some bands will not play outdoors and to take the guesswork out of venues in the case of inclement weather. There have been requests to move the concerts back to the Village Green.
