CANTON Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Tunk Bisnett, 22 Stevens St., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Feb. 23 with an event hosted by their children and grandchildren at Edward C. Seymour VFW Post 1231.
Mr. Bisnett, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chester Bisnett, and Renice Wells, daughter of the late Roy Wells and Irene Watson, were married Feb. 14, 1953, in the parsonage of First Baptist Church with the Rev. A.J. Coffey, pastor, officiating.
Mrs. Bisnett graduated from Canton High School and has been a secretary for Northern Abstract Corp. for 39 years. She is a member of VFW Post 1231 Auxiliary, where she served as president from 1966 to 1968, 1970 to 1971 and 1975 to 1976, and served as president of St. Lawrence Counties Council from 1977 to 1978. She is a member of See-Weigh Keep Off Pounds Sensibly Honor Society and has been a member of Taking Off Pounds Sensibly 102 for 29 years.
Mr. Bisnett attended Canton schools and served in the Navy in 1944 and 1945 aboard the DD 221 Simpson in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II. He is a life member of VFW Post 1231, where he served as commander from 1961 to 1968, 1971 to 1972 and 1975 to 1976. Mr. Bisnett was self-employed for many years in the sand and gravel business before going to work for the village of Canton in 1976, retiring in 1997. He enjoys hunting.
Mr. and Mrs. Bisnett enjoy spending time at their camp in Pierrepont.
The couple has three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry (Bisnett) and Clint Adner, Canton, Holly and Norris Pike, Glens Falls, and Sandra and Dennis Babson, Fort Edward; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
