Slam poetry workshop planned by NCAC

The North Country Arts Council will host a two-day slam poetry workshop featuring poet, activist and educator Jared Paul on Wednesday and Thursday.

The workshop, each day from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., is limited to eight participants and is open to all ages.

Slam poetry melds writing with the art of performance.

Mr. Paul is artist-in-residence at AS220, the award-winning Rhode Island arts collective dedicated to providing unjuried spaces for local and national artists.

As a performance poet, he’s toured internationally to more than 200 cities in the United States, Canada and Europe.

His online bio also notes “a storied career laden with protest arrests.”

The workshop fee is $40, with a $5 discount to NCAC members. Register online at or in person at Arts on the Square, 52 Public Square.

There will be a student performance of slam poetry at 7 p.m. Thursday.
