MASSENA - The election season is in full swing again - for board of education seats.

District clerks say petitions are now available for those who are interested in a running for a seat on their local board of education. The petitions must have 25 signatures.

One seat is up for grabs in the Massena Central School District with Michael J. LeBire’s five-year term expiring this year. Mr. LeBire, chair of the district’s Finance Committee, said he is unsure if he will seek another term.

He had first been elected in 2006 to a two-year term to fill a seat that had been held by Robert Thompson. Mr. LeBire was elected to a five-year term in 2008.

Petitions are due to the district clerk by the end of the day April 22.

In Norwood-Norfolk, three seats will be available this year. They’re currently held by board President Jon D. Hazen and board members Stephanie Allen and Suzanne Fiacco. They are for three-year terms.

Mr. Hazen, Ms. Fiacco and Ms. Allen had finished as the top three vote-getters in May 2010, earning three-year seats on the board.

Petitions are due to the district clerk by the end of the day April 22.

Two five-year seats will be available this year in the St. Lawrence Central School District. They are currently held by board President James K. Lattimer and board member Bethany L. St. Hilaire.

Mr. Lattimer first came to the board in April 2006 to fill a seat that had been vacated by Arthur Siebert. That term ended in June 30, 2006, and Mr. Lattimer was elected that year for a five-year term that expired in 2011. He was reelected in 2011 to fill a two-year seat that opened with the resignation of former board member William Sullivan.

Ms. St. Hilaire was elected to a five-year term in 2008.

Petitions are due to the district clerk by 5 p.m. April 22.

The Potsdam Central School Board of Education will have three vacancies, each for a full three-year term.

The seats are currently held by Thomas W. Hobbs, Mark R. Frascatore and Ralph L. Fuller.

Mr. Hobbs and Mr. Fuller have picked up petitions.

Completed petitions, which are available in the district office, must contain a minimum of 25 signatures and be returned to the district office by April 22.

In Parishville, there will be two seats on the ballot this year on the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School Board of Education.

District Clerk Lori Witherell said both seats are full five-year terms with the seats held by James Youngs and the late Steve Wilson up for grabs.

Mr. Wilson’s seat is currently held Daniel Taylor, who took over the seat last spring following Mr. Wilson’s death.

Ms. Witherell said Mr. Taylor and Mr. Youngs have picked up petitions. At this point, no other candidates have done so.

The dealine to return petitions, which may be picked up at the district office, is April 19. Each petition must contain a minimum of 25 signatures prior to being returned.

The Colton-Pierrepont Central School District will have one full four-year term to fill on its board.

District Clerk Diane Ladison said that seat is currently held by Jo Ann Roberts, who had picked up a petition to run for re-election.

Petitions are available in the district office and must be returned by April 19. Each petition must contain a minimum of 25 signatures prior to submission.
