CAPE VINCENT The Town Council is considering whether to sell punch cards or permits to transfer station customers starting this summer and stop accepting cash at the station beginning Jan. 1.
Town officials said many details have to be worked out and nothing has been decided.
Because of an auditors recommendation, the council is trying to implement a no-cash policy at the transfer station on Wilson Road, meaning customers will have to pay first at the town clerks office on Route 12E, 2.7 miles away.
The town is hoping to make the transition as smooth as possible by accepting cash and punch cards for a few months before the proposed no-cash rule takes effect.
