Louis C. Bush III, Lowville, and Dr. Richard and Cathy Meagher, Carthage, announce the engagement of their daughter and stepdaughter, Melinda Bush, to Christopher Thompson. The couple lives in West Islip.

Miss Bush graduated in 1986 from Lowville Academy and Central School. She received a bachelor’s degree from Alfred University and a degree in gemology from the Geological Institute of America, New York City. Miss Bush is a financial planner for men’s and children’s apparel at Macy’s, New York City.

Mr. Thompson, son of Harold Thompson, Miller Place, and the late Virginia Thompson, graduated in 1981 from St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, West Islip. He received an associate degree in criminal justice, with specialization in lie detection, from SUNY Farmingdale. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in English, with a minor in business, and a juris doctorate from St. John’s University, New York City. He is a self-employed attorney, practicing in New York state and federal courts.

An October wedding in New York City is planned.
